Is your mattresses safe? Is it really? Is it safe for your children, for your family?
Glues used in standard mattresses
Please note: Our purely latex bedding does not contain the following PU foams – Polyurethane foam.
Mattress makers use glues to bond layers of the mattress together as well as to bond the fabric cover to the core, which is the inside of your mattress.
Adhesives can be rolled to bond each layer or can be diluted and used in water and sprayed over each surface to be bonded. This second method lets manufacturers call their glue a “water based adhesive”.
A water based adhesive is simply a process when water is mixed in with a solvent based adhesive to allow the spraying of the glue over each mattress surface. When the glue dries, all water molecules in the adhesive evaporate and only the adhesive which emits VOCs is left.
The long-term health effects that potentially can occur after exposure to Volatile Organic Content (VOC) found in most Adhesive solvents include cancers, heart and liver damage, kidney and central nervous system diseases which affect the entire body.
